Dies in France of Wounds of Oct. 8

Private First Class Fred Locandro, husband, of Mrs. Ella L. Locandro, 247 North Center Street, and son of Mr. And Mrs. Samuel Locandro, Lebanon Road, died of wounds received in action Friday, October 13, somewhere in France according to a telegram received by his wife Saturday, November 4 from the War Department. On Monday, November 6, Mrs. Locandro, the boy’s wife received a letter from the War Department verifying the death of Pfc. Locandro.

Pfc. Locandro was slightly wounded in action Sunday, October 8, somewhere in France, in a wire received by his wife Wednesday, October 25 from the War Department. Young Locandro was twenty-four years old.He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Ella L. Locandro, a son Dennis, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Locandro, one sister, Mrs. Amelia Karnages, Collinsville, six brothers, Pvt. Cecil Locandro, a member of the Armored Infantry Battalion somewhere in France, Frank Locandro A/S, a member of the U.S. Coast Guard, stationed at New Orleans, Sgt. Alexander Locandro,a member of a Medical Battalion, stationed at Fort Lewis, Wash; Joseph, Anthony and Amondo Locandro of this city. Pfc. Locandro, who was a member of the Armored Infantry Battalion, was inducted into the service of his country on January 8, 1944, and was first stationed at Camp Wheeler, Mississippi. He was sent overseas in July of this year, transferring from England to France. Locandro attended the Lutheran Grade School, and is a member of the 1938 graduating class of Collinsville Township High School. Prior to his induction he was employed by the Socony Vacuum company in East St. Louis.
